Veggie Pizza

Do you know that this widely consumed fast food around the world has ancient roots? Pizza is a Spin-off dish for Roman bread focaccia. The Idea of pizzas came up with various cultures making different kinds of bread with different toppings. Today’s modern Pizza is said to have originated in Naples, Italy but the word Pizza has Greek origin derived from the Greek word pēktos meaning solid or clotted. The term ‘pizza’ was first documented in Gaeta- a city in Central Italy which is now known to be the specialty of Italian cuisine worldwide.

In 1930 the first pizzeria- Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba was opened in Naples and now the idea of pizzeria has traveled a long journey worldwide. Pizzerias are now referred to as Pizza restaurants with Pizza Hut and Dominos being the most popularly known to mankind. Your favorites, Pizza Hut made its first appearance in the US during the 1930s and Dominos in 1960s.


Nowadays we see various versions of Pizza being made and many dishes based on pizzas. With this blog, we bring to you the modern version of the pizza recipe that you can try yourself at your home.

Let’s begin!


“The What”

  • 1 cup of warm water

  • Dry yeast

  • Sugar

  • Salt

  • Black Pepper Powder

  • All-purpose flour

  • Olive oil

  • Bell Peppers (Red, yellow, green) - 1 each

  • 1 carrot

  • 1 tomato

  • Some Mushrooms

  • Garlic Paste

  • Red Pasta Sauce

  • Pizza Seasoning

  • Chili Flakes

  • Cheddar Cheese

  • Parmesan Cheese


“The How”

  • Pour 1 cup of warm water in a bowl make sure that the water is not hot, hot water kills the yeast

  • Add 1 tsp active dry yeast and 1 tsp of sugar

  • Set the bowl aside for 10-15 minutes, after which the yeast will start to froth

  • Now add 2 cups of all purpose flour,1 ½ tsp olive oil and ½ tsp salt

  • Mix all the ingredients and make a dough, knead it properly until very soft consistency

  • Add water to the mixture if needed

  • The consistency of the dough should be elastic (which means that the dough should bounce back when you press it down)

  • Grease the bowl properly and let the dough rest in it for at least 2-3 hours until it is double its size

  • Don't forget to cover the bowl properly

  • Cut the vegetables (Bell Pepper, carrots, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms) as you would like it

  • Put all the vegetables to the bowl

  • Pour some olive oil to the bowl of vegetables, add some salt and pepper powder as per your taste and mix well

  • In ½ cup of generic Red Pasta sauce add ½ tsp garlic paste, 2 pinches of oregano leaves, ½ tsp olive oil, a pinch of salt and mix well

  • After a minimum of 2-3 hours, knead the doubled dough for 2 minutes

  • Cut it into 2-3 portions

  • Lay the dough down on the flat surface, sprinkle some dry flour all over to avoid the stickiness

  • Roll the dough into a circular base of your preferred size

  • Roll the edges inwards

  • Add some olive oil to the surface and spread the prepared pizza sauce on the pizza base

  • Lay down the chopped vegetables on it

  • Add a layer of grated parmesan and cheddar cheese on the top

  • Preheat the oven for 10-15 mins at 200 degree celsius

  • Bake for 12-15 minutes

  • Sprinkle some pizza seasoning and chilli flakes on top

  • Slice the pizza and serve warm
