Home-made Chicken Biryani

If you are a biryani lover then this post is solely for you. Kehte hai the love for biryani is mystical, and its birth is always a mystery. Do you remember when and where and how you fell in love? Not really but you just did and that's the magic of biryani.


It's a dish which unites friends and foes, regions and religions. Yaad hai bachpan me woh dost ke ghar jaake Eid ka dawaat khaana? Maybe, we've left behind all of those good days somewhere in the past, but we'd like to walk down that memory lane of yours with our home made biryani recipe.


Jab Eid Ka ho shaam, toh dawaat ho Biryani ke naam.



Let's get started!


“The What”


For Chicken

  • ½ kg Chicken

  • 4 medium size onions

  • 4 chopped Tomatoes

  • 6 green chillies

  • Coriander and mint leaves

  • 4 tsp ginger garlic paste

  • 3 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder

  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric

  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala

  • ½ teaspoon jeera powder

  • ½ teaspoon coriander powder


For Rice

  • ½ kg Basmati Rice

  • 4 Cinnamon sticks

  • 2 elaichi buds

  • One teaspoon jeera

  • 3 cloves bud

  • Coriander leaves

  • 1 tsp Ghee


“The How”

  • Soak Basmati Rice for half an hour

  • Heat 4-5 tsp oil in a big pan and fry the onions until light brown

  • Add Ginger garlic paste to the pan and cook well until the raw smell disappears

  • Add tasteful amount of salt and add the washed chicken

  • Cook the chicken nicely on a high flame for 4-5 mins

  • Add the masala to the chicken. Mix well and cook for another 3-4 minutes

  • Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and let it cook for sometime

  • Add green chillies and coriander, mint leaves to the pan. Mix well in high flame

  • Put off the flame and let the chicken rest for 30 seconds.

  • Add a cup of beaten dahi to the pan without the flame. Mix well

  • Switch on the flame and continue cooking for 2-3 mins

  • Pour water in a big Pan separately and add cinnamon sticks, elaichi buds, jeera, clove buds and coriander leaves to the water. Bring the water to a boil and add a tsp ghee to it

  • Add the soaked rice to the water and half cook the rice before putting off the flame

  • Evenly settle the chichen on the pan and top it up with a layer of half cooked rice

  • Put a flat pan on the gas stove and add water to it. Place the pan containing chicken and rice on top of it and put the lid and cook for 10 minutes


Ta-da!! You are done with all the hard work and are ready to treat yourself and your loved ones with the reward.
